PPP Widget 3 represents a significant overhaul from PPP Widget 2. It retains all the features of its predecessor while introducing support for various new modem connection types beyond the traditional PPP, namely NCM, ECM, and QMI for those well-versed in the field. Additionally, it boasts its proprietary USB code, which effectively retrofits certain bug fixes for Android's early USB API (pre 4.3). This enhancement has enabled the implementation of asynchronous USB transfers throughout the application, resulting in a noticeable speed enhancement.
Extensive testing was carried out with newer Huawei modems such as the E3272 and E3372, indicating compatibility with most 3G/4G/LTE modems. Similar to PPP Widget 2, it may also facilitate the utilization of conventional cell phones with modem capabilities via Bluetooth (DUN profile).
THERE IS NO ACTUAL APP WINDOW!!
Just like its predecessors, this app cannot be launched by tapping an icon or using a launcher. Instead, users must place the WIDGET on their workspace to activate it. Familiarize yourself with accessing WIDGETS on your device before use.
REQUIREMENTS (please read carefully before raising concerns):
- Needs root access (Magisk recommended)
- For USB: requires a USB host connection (with OTG adapter)
- For USB: necessitates external USB power
Regarding the last point, modems often draw more power than tablets or smartphones can supply. Even if they manage this with a full battery, there may still be stability issues such as the modem abruptly 'vanishing' or other intermittent disruptions.
An economical OTG Y cable can be employed along with any generic micro USB power adapter to supply power to the modem while connected, significantly reducing strain on the battery! Alternatively, a conventional externally powered USB hub can be used for even better results.
This application is free from advertisements and does not access the Internet itself. It does not collect or transmit any user or device data nor monitor any content on the network connection it establishes. If you are skeptical about these assurances, we suggest refraining from installing this app.
Please note that this app is designed to circumvent common stock firmware limitations. It has not been evaluated with custom ROMs, where developers have the liberty to eliminate such restrictions effortlessly.
